Lavantha sits on the lower ground floor of Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown, inside the former vault of the old Oriental Bank. Down the lift, through the vault door: a long, low room of black marble, gold and champagne light, built for conversation rather than volume. The menu is titled A Library of Modern Classics — 120 drinks, each a considered take on a classic cocktail, organised across ten base spirits from gin to champagne. Guests can also take a bottle from the list and have the team turn it into cocktails from the menu, glass by glass. A short menu of Japanese-influenced snacks. Start with the cured wagyu beef chips. The room takes all comers: the bar counter for those drinking alone, standing tables for a couple of friends, couches for larger groups, and private rooms for those who’d rather close the door. Open Tuesday to Thursday, 5.30pm–1am; Friday and Saturday, 7pm–2am. Closed Sunday and Monday.
